State Licensure
The American College of Applied Science (ACAS) is licensed under Florida state law by the Florida Department of Education, Commission for Independent Education, license no. 3145 to grant graduate and undergraduate degrees and professional development diplomas since January 2005. Licensure is mandatory under state law while accreditation is a voluntary process for institutions of higher education.
Accreditation
ACAS has an application pending with the Accrediting Counsel for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS). This can be confirmed on the ACICS Web site at http://acics.org. ACICS is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and currently accredits more than 680 institutions throughout the United States and more than a dozen foreign countries enrolling approximately 650,000 students. ACICS is a not-for-profit organization with offices in Washington, D.C.
ACAS has had a pre-application site visit by ACICS staff and is expecting a second visit in the spring-summer of 2010. ACAS anticipates a full accreditation team visit sometime in the late fall of 2010. The decision on accreditation is usually made shortly thereafter. However, we are not permitted to advise potential students or the general public at any time during the accreditation process if and when the college will be granted accreditation.
